Lee County Public Safety Director Ben Abes informed the public about updates surrounding the effects of Hurricane Helene.

During a news conference Thursday, Abes commented that while the impacts of the storm were not direct, it remained an exercise in precaution when storms directly impact Lee County.

At 3 p.m. Thursday, Lee County Emergency Management sent out a press release urging residents to avoid driving as weather conditions continue to worsen. Those who must drive are advised to avoid standing water and use caution at all intersections.

Abes asked residents not to visit Lee County barrier islands out of an abundance of caution due to heavy winds and rainfall.

Power outages have been reported throughout the area, and more may occur while the storm continues.

Abes reminds residents to use proper due diligence if a household uses a generator.

No evacuation orders have been issued.

All Lee County government services have been closed for the storm.
