What’s open and what’s closed as Helene affects SWFL

As Hurricane Helene travels north in the Gulf of Mexico, many businesses and services in Southwest Florida are adjusting their hours or closing temporarily due to the wind and rain.

Some grocery stores and essential services remain open to help residents stock up on supplies, while schools and government offices have announced closures.

Schools

Government Offices and Services

  • Hendry County and Lee County Government offices are closed on Thursday.
  • The City of LaBelle announced that City Hall will be open Friday
  • The City of Cape Coral has announced that City Hall and ancillary offices will be open Friday
  • The City of North Port has announced that City Hall and other city offices will reopen on Friday
  • Lee County Waste Pro collections will shift one day: Thursday collection will occur on Friday, and Friday collection will occur on Saturday.
  • USPS is not delivering until further notice.
  • For Charlotte County residents, residential curbside collection of garbage, recyclables, and yard trimmings will resume on Friday.

Parks and Recreation

  • All indoor and outdoor programs in Cape Coral after 4 p.m. all day Thursday are canceled.
  • Coral Oaks Golf Course in Cape Coral will remain closed through Thursday.
  • All Cape Coral park facilities and recreation centers are closed Thursday.
  • The City of Naples has closed the Naples Pier and is strongly urging all residents and visitors to get off the roads immediately

Stores

  • Several Publix Super Markets are closed on Thursday. You can read a list here.
  • St. Matthew’s House has closed its seven thrift stores, its Choice Food Pantry, and its restaurant, Lulu’s Kitchen, in Naples.
  • St. Matthew’s House has opened its two Emergency Homeless Shelters in Naples and Immokalee through Sunday.

Southwest Florida International Airport is open, but multiple flights have been canceled due to Hurricane Helene.
