In the wake of Hurricane Helene, Charlotte County has opened an air-conditioned comfort station equipped with showers and laundry facilities to aid residents struggling to recover from the storm.

Community members in need of transportation can contact the Charlotte County Emergency Operations Center at 941-833-4000 to arrange rides to and from the shelter.

Ride-share service app Lyft is also offering residents discounted rates through their “Lyft Up Disaster Response” program. By applying the code HELENERELIEF24, users will be able to cover two rides valued up to $25 each. The offer is available to the first 1,500 riders and will expire at 11:59 p.m. on Oct. 4.

Charlotte County encourages residents using the facility to bring their own supplies if they are able to.

The comfort station is located at the Harold Avenue Regional Park Recreation Center in Port Charlotte, 23400 Harold Ave. It will be available for use daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. until further notice.
