We have just learned Punta Gorda city manager Greg Murray has resigned.

This comes just 3 months after Murray was escorted out of a bar called Shortys.

When we spoke on the phone with Murray, he said he had a medical episode brought on by new blood sugar medication.

Punta Gorda city manager Greg Murray said he resigned on Monday but told the council today during their meeting and told them “He wouldn’t leave if they still wanted him”.

The council accepted his resignation and voted to discuss the city manager’s contract even though both were not on the agenda.

Murray asked to address the council members. Newly elected mayor Debi Lux and Murray exchanged words.

The city attorney said the vote was legally done, and the council members thanked Murray for his service.

Melissa Reichert was named interim city manager.

WINK News has contacted Punta Gorda officials for a comment and will update you when we receive a response.
