The pedestrian walkway project on the Caloosahatchee bridge in Fort Myers is on schedule and is expected to be completed before Christmas Day.

On Tuesday, WINK News reported that construction continued throughout the night into the early morning, creating a significant traffic buildup at the peak of rush hour.

Thursday morning Lee County Commissioner Brian Hamman, who represents Lehigh Acres, joined 92.5 FM where he was asked about progress on the walkway.

He says he spoke with the District Secretary of the Florida Department of Transportation about its impact on commuters and plans to have all four lanes open before Christmas Day.

This means there will be traffic flow before the peak of the season.

Originally the plan was to have the bridge fully reopened and work completed between December and January.
