Boston oncologist named medical director at Southwest Florida Proton

Southwest Florida Proton’s new senior medical director once taught Dr. Arie Dosoretz in medical school. Now, he is her boss.

Dosoretz, the brainchild behind Southwest Florida Proton, announced the hiring of Dr. Shannon MacDonald as senior medical director of the center that opened in December. She will be tasked with overseeing the day-to-day operation and long-term planning, as well as seeing patients.

MacDonald is moving to Southwest Florida from Boston, where she is associate professor of radiation oncology at Harvard Medical School and director of base-of-skull service, director of sarcoma service and proton therapy liaison at Massachusetts General Hospital. She starts in February.
