Bicyclist killed in Port Charlotte on Gasparilla Rd.

An early morning collision between a vehicle and a bicyclist turned deadly in Port Charlotte.

The crash happened on Gasparilla Road at Keystone Boulevard Monday morning at around 5:55.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 63-year-old man from Port Charlotte was driving a Ford F-150 south when the vehicle’s front right side struck a 51-year-old bicyclist from Sarasota.

The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office said Gasparilla Road was closed in both directions, and traffic was diverted onto Winborough Drive between Keystone Boulevard and Appleton Boulevard.

FHP is still investigating the crash.
