Nash Rhodes was born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee, and recently completed degrees in Meteorology, Journalism, and Business at The University of Oklahoma in 2021. Having had one of the few tornado shelters in the neighborhood, his family hosted many severe weather get-togethers, which led to Nash’s early interest in storms.

While in college, he earned his Certificate of Intelligence Studies for his research in communication through the analysis of meteorological intelligence. His research has been presented at the 6th Annual Intelligence and National Security Symposium at OU and conferences through the American Meteorology Society. Through this research, he discovered unique ways to utilize social media location services in conjunction with radar products to obtain visual confirmation of breaking severe weather events. This led to an internship with the CNN World Weather team where his radar explainers and many of his cleared severe weather videos would be used on CNN, CNN International, and HLN.

Along the way, Rhodes would partner with Radarscope for four years to create Doppler radar explainer videos for severe weather events. His videos have garnered millions of impressions and aided in bridging the gap between meteorologists and the public during severe weather events.

Nash worked part-time at WNKY-TV in Bowling Green, Kentucky, and received the National Weather Association's only 2021 Broadcast Meteorology Scholarship for his work in the field. He joined the WINK Weather Team in June and is excited to provide Southwest Floridians with an accurate forecast each morning to plan out their day.

Near-record heat Thursday under hazy skies

Hot and humid weather returns to the forecast, as high temperatures soar into the 90s. Most of the WINK viewing area will experience highs several degrees warmer than Wednesday’s maximum temperatures. High humidity will only amplify that heat. Dew points in the 70s will make our “feels like” temperatures return to the triple digits as […]

Hot, humid Wednesday afternoon ahead of isolated thunderstorms

High temperatures will climb into the mid to upper-90s under increasing cloud cover. Dew points will remain in the 70s, fueling triple-digit “feels like” temperatures across Southwest Florida. A large area of high pressure continues to linger over the Sunshine State. This will keep high temperatures somewhere between two to four degrees above average for […]

Spotty storms possible Tuesday evening

The Weather Authority expects temperatures to hover in the 90s for the rest of the afternoon before cooling off in the evening hours. A few spotty storms are possible, but will quickly fizzle into tonight. A plume of Saharan Dust is currently moving through Southwest Florida. This will make for more vibrant sunrises and sunsets. […]

Saturday brings more scattered thunderstorms

High temperatures will return to the 90s. Our high humidity will make Saturday’s “feels like” temperatures reach the upper 90s in many locations. After a mostly sunny start to the day, showers and storms will begin forming in the late morning. These morning rain chances will primarily stay south of the Caloosahatchee River before increasing […]

Friday brings hot, stormy end to the workweek

Many locations will reach the mid-90s under increasing cloud cover. Expect slightly warmer weather than what we experienced on Thursday. Boaters will have no trouble navigating the water to begin the day. Afternoon and evening thunderstorm chances may eventually impact your plans. Showers and storms will likely hold off until after lunchtime. A few severe […]

Chance for scattered thunderstorms Thursday afternoon & evening

High temperatures will climb into the 90s under increasing cloud cover. These temperatures are near seasonal for this time of year, as we typically see low to mid 90s through the month of July. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will form after lunchtime. These will bring rain to the majority of Southwest Florida. Best timing for […]

James Webb Space Telescope showing NASA pictures of the universe

The remarkable images coming from NASA’s newest telescope are capturing the imaginations of people around the world. WINK News meteorologist Nash Rhodes is joined by Dr. Charles Beichman, executive director of the NASA Exoplanet Science Center, to talk about what the James Webb Space Telescope has shown us so far and what we could see […]

Wednesday brings unseasonable heat, scattered thunderstorms

High temperatures will climb into the 90s across Southwest Florida under partly cloudy skies. High humidity will continue to inflate our “feels like” temperatures into triple digits during peak heating. Scattered thunderstorms will mitigate some of that heat. These storms will initially develop south of the Caloosahatchee River just after lunchtime, before increasing their coverage […]

Tuesday brings afternoon inland thunderstorms lasting into the evening

High temperatures will return to the 90s under partly cloudy skies. A few showers and weak storms will be possible along the coastline, with most of our rain chances remaining inland. The scale and strength of these storms will be maximized in the evening, although most of these should remain below severe criteria. Boaters will […]

Spotty storm chance for this evening

The Weather Authority expects a hot rest of the afternoon with temperatures in the 90s, and potentially a spotty coastal shower or storm in the evening hours.   There is only one area of disturbed weather that The Weather Authority is currently tracking in the tropics.   This disturbance will be entering the Gulf of […]
