CAPE CORAL, Fla.- More than three months after a deadly crash, a man is under arrest for vehicular homicide.

Jason Stewart is facing charges in the death of 60-year-old Scott Johnsen.

Police say in September 2014, Stewart was driving 100 mph on Diplomat Parkway near Andalusia Boulevard when he hit Johnsen who was riding a bike.

Johnsen’s friends and family have been patiently waiting to see if the driver who hit him would face punishment.

Stewart was brought in for questioning but never charged.

After a lengthy investigation, Stewart was arrested Monday on a warrant.

“Scott was a great guy, good rider, always concerned about safety issues,” said Mike Swanson.

Swanson was a fellow member of the Caloosa Riders Bicycle Club with Johnsen. He says it was a relief when he learned Stewart had been arrested.

“We know that it takes time to do the investigation and that it would be better to have a solid case brought, than to bring it too early and not have everything lined up,” said Swanson.

Cape Coral police say it’s not uncommon for investigations like these to take months to complete.
