Collier School Board agrees to let students sit out of choral songs

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla.- It’s all part of an ongoing fight, over the Barron Collier High School Chorus. Late Tuesday night, School Board members agreed to let students sit out of certain parts of performances if a song makes them uncomfortable.

The WINK News Night Beat was there late Tuesday night as parents shouted at board members. Some parents were upset because of a performance set to be held at a church, which they say goes against certain students’ religious beliefs.

The ACLU even threatened to sue the school over the choice of venue. But late Tuesday, the School Board agreed students can sit out for part of a performance if a song makes them uncomfortable.

School board members needed to act quickly. The chorus is scheduled to perform at a Moorings Presbyterian Church Thursday night.
