NAPLES, Fla. (AP) – A North Naples man accused of killing his wife and five children in 2009 has filed a motion to change his plea, two months after being found competent for trial.

Lawyers for 38-year-old Mesac Damas filed the motion Friday to change his plea from not guilty on six first-degree charges, though it doesn’t say what the new plea will be. Damas has recently sent emails to the Naples Daily News (http://goo.gl/J7hfUK ) saying he wants to plead guilty.

Earlier this year a Collier County judge ordered Damas into treatment after agreeing with a pair of doctors that he was not competent for trial. Damas underwent mental health treatment at a facility in Melbourne and was returned to Naples over the summer. He was deemed competent to proceed to trial in October.

No date has been set for Damas’ motion.
