FORT MYERS, Fla.- Santa Claus and his elves made the rounds of the pediatric unit at Golisano Children’s Hospital Thursday morning.

Even though the hospital doesn’t have a chimney, it couldn’t stop Santa from finding the kids. He brought a bag full of gifts but the sick kids were more interested in the comfort than presents.

From the babies to young teens, none of them wanted to spend Christmas in a hospital bed.

Santa’s job at the hospital was more than just delivering presents, because little boys and girls devoting all of their energy to recovering shouldn’t be worried they’ll be forgotten on Christmas.

“With the little kids, it seems they’re concerned that Santa won’t be able to find them while they’re at the hospital. So when we come to the hospital to visit, it’s to ease their fears that Christmas will still go on, they’ll still receive presents, and it does warm their hearts.”

With so many strangers walking through their rooms, it was nice to see a familiar face this Christmas. Nice to forget about the doctors and nurses for a few minutes, and see the man with the white beard and red hat whom they call by his first name. A man they’ve known all of their lives.
