FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla.,- Just hours from now, fireworks will blast off on Fort Myers Beach. But, WINK News is learning, this could be the last year for the show because of a funding issue.

“I’ve never had new years down here, so I thought I’d give it a shot,” said Valerie Gates.

At the stroke of midnight, the famous fireworks on Fort Myers Beach will be set off, ringing in the new year.

“They are amazing, there are a lot of beautiful colors, they put on a unique show,” said General Manager of Lehne Burger, CC.

A couple of the islands new visitors are hoping to catch the show for the first time in person.

“I’m excited to see them, I hope to see what they are like for once,” said Christopher Sebold.

“I’d like to, but on the other my mom, she doesn’t like to stay up late,” said Nick Sebold.

But, this could be the last fireworks show on the beach. The town announced it would no longer use funds for the New Years Eve and Fourth of July fireworks starting in 2015.

“Well, that sucks, everyone love fireworks, I love fireworks, I hope they can do it, again,” said Gates.

For both shows to go on, it will be up to the community to donate the $120,000.

“It will get raised, one way or another, come heck or high water, we’ll get it done,” said Owner of Silver Sands Resort, Andrea Carriere.

“It would not be good, everyone looks forward seeing this,” said CC.

Today, is also the town’s 19th birthday.
