MGN Online MIAMI (AP) – A South Florida mayor cleared of federal corruption charges has gone to court to get his old job back. Michael Pizzi insists in the lawsuit filed Tuesday that he should be restored as mayor of Miami Lakes to serve out his term through November 2016. The city, however, contends that Pizzi will not be reinstated even though Gov. Rick Scott has lifted his suspension from office. The city says replacement Mayor Wayne Slaton is the properly elected leader to finish the term. Pizzi’s attorneys want a Miami-Dade County judge to force his reinstatement. They previously persuaded the state Supreme Court to order Scott to lift Pizzi’s suspension. Pizzi was acquitted by a jury last August of seven corruption-related charges stemming from an undercover FBI investigation into questionable city grants.
