NEWARK, N.J. (AP) – A Russian citizen charged with being part of the largest criminal hacking scheme ever prosecuted in the United States is scheduled to make his first court appearance in New Jersey.
The U.S. attorney’s office says Vladimir Drinkman is due to appear Tuesday afternoon in Newark.
Drinkman is one of several people charged in 2013 with running a sophisticated hacking operation that penetrated computer networks of more than a dozen major American and international corporations over seven years.
Drinkman had been held in Amsterdam awaiting extradition.
Authorities said in 2013 that Drinkman and others from Russia and Ukraine stole and sold 100 million to 200 million credit and debit card numbers resulting in losses of hundreds of millions of dollars.
