Lowry Park Zoo welcomes baby clouded leopard

TAMPA, Fla. – The Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa is welcoming its newest arrival — a baby clouded leopard. The little guys is only 10 days old and is the first baby for the zoo’s 4-year-old clouded leopard pair.

The species is endangered, so the baby who doesn’t have a name just yet, is being raised in the zoo’s veterinary hospital. He will be hand-reared until about 3-months-old, when he can weaned.

Officials say he’s feeding well and gaining weight. He should be strong enough to walk in the next few weeks.

Clouded leopards are reclusive and the smallest of the big cats. They are native to the forests and rainforests in Southeast Asia.
