LEHIGH ACRES, Fla.- Authorities are investigating the death of an infant at a local daycare center.

Parents tell WINK News a 6-month-old died Friday morning at Grace Community School.

Grace Community parents rushed to pick up their children after the word spread. Some
parents were frantic, just wanting to get their child away from the scene.

People who work at Grace Community hugged and consoled one another after the child passed away.

Guerlie Laurore tells WINK News she knew the parents of the baby.

“They say that a kid died, little baby, 6-month-old. That was the owner kids,” said Laurore, “I feel sorry and sad for the owner, he’s a great guy.”

The Grace Community School released a statement saying:

Please join us in prayer for Rev. David and Melissa Moody, our missionary directors of Lehigh. This morning their youngest daughter passed away. She was breathing and fine one minute and gone the next. These symptoms or lack of symptoms are common to sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS)

Please join us in sending to them our love and prayers that God will comfort them through this. There is no greater loss than that of a child.

A Department of Children and Families spokesperson tells WINK News:

We are deeply saddened to learn of the death of an infant this morning at Grace Community School of Lehigh Acres. DCF child protection investigators are on scene and are working closely with law enforcement as we jointly investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of the child.  The facility is religiously exempt and is not inspected or licensed by the Department of Children and Families. However, the department will be advising the accrediting agency that accredits Grace Community School.
