MGN DAYTONA BEACH SHORES, Fla. (AP) – Officials say an 11-year-old boy was struck by lightning while fishing off a central Florida beach. Volusia County Beach Safety Ocean Rescue reports that the Georgia boy and his father were fishing in knee-deep water off Daytona Beach Shores Tuesday afternoon when the boy was hit. He was rushed to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. Others at the beach told the Daytona Beach News-Journal (http://goo.gl/Bm81B8 ) that the weather had been sunny and nice just before the lightning strike. Meteorologists with the National Weather Service say the bolt likely came from a storm that developed quickly overhead and only lasted about a half-hour.
