SANIBEL, Fla.- Southwest Florida’s famous bald eagle Ozzie helped save the life of another bird while on the road to recovery.

Ozzie has been in the care of Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW) for almost three months.

During that period, Ozzie has received public support from far away as Australia.

Tuesday, Ozzie shared some of his good fortune and blood with another eaglet that was brought to CROW from St. James City after being found on the ground and in a weak physical state.

The eaglet was not expected to make it through the night unless it received a blood transfusion from Ozzie.

After receiving the blood transfusion, the eaglet appeared more alert,  improved color and enjoying a diet of rat and fish.

As of Wednesday morning, Ozzie and the eaglet seem to both be doing well after the blood transfusion.  The eaglet is in guarded condition and will be monitored closely.
