(AP) – Floridians will get a 10-day tax break on school supplies, computers and clothes under a more than $400 million tax cut package approved by the Florida Senate on Monday. The Senate passed the tax cut bill by a 34-2 margin. The Florida House could approve it later Monday and send the bill to Gov. Rick Scott. The legislation also contains a cut in the state tax charged on cellphones and cable television. Scott earlier this year had pushed legislators to pass nearly $700 million of tax cuts. The Republican governor promised on the campaign trail to cut taxes by $1 billion over the next two years. But legislators scaled back the size of the tax cut package in order to boost funding to hospitals. Legislators returned to Tallahassee June 1 after failing to pass a budget during their regular session. The session is scheduled to end June 20.
