Zero tips so far in Dunbar double homicide

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Valerie Hamilton sat quietly Monday remembering the two young family members taken from her last week.

“It’s been like a dream… and you haven’t yet touched reality yet to know that you just lost two of the most wonderful nephews that you could’ve ever had,” Hamilton told WINK News.

Hamilton’s nephew, Andrew Chisholm, and her great nephew, Tarvese “Nuk” Johnson, were both gunned down at their Dunbar apartment Thursday afternoon.

Johnson was a student at Cypress Lake High School, just 17 years old.

“He was just a sweetheart,” said Hamilton.

The shooter has not been caught. Fort Myers police tell WINK News the investigation is still active, as they continue to search for witnesses to come forward.

Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers says they have not gotten a single tip since the shooting.

“It’s very frustrating… We know there was a lot of people who saw things, who heard things, who know things, and yet not one of those people has chosen to pick up the phone,” said Trish Routte with Crime Stoppers.

Hamilton says she knows many in Dunbar are afraid to talk, fearing retaliation.

“We gotta get these people out here to talk. All  know is we’re a hurting family right now. We’re hoping that, as a whole, my community will just come together,” she said.

“The people of Dunbar need to take their community back. They need to step up and they need to say something and not be afraid of these bullies,” said Routte.

If you have any information that can help police, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS. You can remain anonymous and be eligible for up to $26,000 in rewards.
