Gas leak closes down portion of Pine Ridge Road

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla.- A gas leak closed down part of Pine Ridge Road Friday afternoon.

Officials with the North Collier Fire Department say local businesses were evacuated near Yahl Street as a precautionary measure.

“A small leak, probably corrosion. We live here everything is sand, so when it rains and everything goes down, it doesn’t run off. So over the years, it could be that it affected the underground pipe,” said Jerry Sandford with North Collier Fire.

Davis Kim says he had to close his Asian market for almost two hours because of the gas leak.

“Gas was leaking really bad, smell something, so we got to move,” said Kim.

“Makes for a weird day,” said Jason Raleigh who works at a tattoo shop in the plaza.

He tells WINK News they had to cancel and reschedule several appointments because of the evacuation.

“It just puts you in a little agitation but other than that, we’ll get all of our people back in,” said Raleigh.

TECO shut off the gas line while working to repair it.

All lanes of Pine Ridge Road were closed for almost two hours.
