TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) – It’s been nearly six months since Florida’s school testing system was the target of a cyberattack, but there’s been no public explanation of who was behind it or why it happened.

A spokeswoman for the Florida Department of Law Enforcement would only say that the incident remained under investigation.

State officials last March blamed the cyberattack for some of the delays that that marred administration of the Florida Standards Assessment. That’s the new test based on standards linked to Common Core.

The Department of Education maintains that the cyberattack prevented students from logging on to take the test but that test itself and student information was never breached.

Testing problems, however, led state legislators to order an independent study into how the test was drawn up and administered. That study is due by Sept. 1. Education officials have not distributed test results while the test is pending.
