PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla.- A man is in police custody following a domestic-related shooting in which a woman, a child and a dog were injured Friday afternoon. The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office says around noon, a man broke into a house in the 2400 block of Newberry Street. A 32-year-old woman who was home at the time ran to a neighbor’s home in fear with her 16-month-old child. Authorities say the man followed her to the neighbor’s house and began shooting into the home, injuring the homeowner’s dog, before driving away in a small black sedan. Deputies spotted and began pursuing the suspect’s vehicle on U.S. 41. before the man crashed near Chamberlain Boulevard and was taken into custody. The victim and her child were taken to Bayfront Health to be treated. The dog was taken by its owner to a veterinarian to be checked out.
