ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) – Some of the nation’s top transportation officials are in Florida to listen to political leaders and everyday commuters talk about transportation needs for the state in the coming decades.

U.S. Federal Highway Administrator Greg Nadeau is in Orlando Friday as part of a forum called “Beyond Traffic.”

The southern half of Florida has been identified by the federal Department of Transportation as one of the 11 regions in the nation that will experience the biggest population growth in the coming decades.

Federal officials want to hear directly from residents in these regions about transportation challenges and ways to solve them.

Similar forums are being held around the nation in these fast-growing regions. The other regions include Austin, Boston, Denver, Phoenix and Sacramento.
