MGN LONGWOOD, Fla. (AP) – Jurors convicted former a Longwood police chief of accepting more than $30,000 in bribes to hire a convicted felon as an officer. The Orlando Sentinel (http://bit.ly/1PSysHw ) reports Chief Tom Jackson took payments before and after hiring Samer Majzoub in July 2009. State law says felons can’t be hired as police officers or have weapons. Authorities say Jackson tried to cover up the hire by sending a letter to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement asking them to remove his request to hire Majzoub from a public document. Jackson served as police chief from 1997 to 2010. Sentencing hasn’t been set. The case was tried in federal court.
