TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) – Florida’s highest court is being asked to resolve a long-running legal battle over Florida’s political landscape.

The Florida Supreme Court held a Tuesday hearing on what boundaries should be adopted for the state’s congressional districts.

The court in July threw out Florida’s current districts because they violated the state constitution. But the House and Senate deadlocked during an August special session over a replacement map.

Most of the court hearing centered on proposed changes for a South Florida seat now held by U.S. Rep. Carlos Curbelo. Curbelo’s seat could become more Democratic if the Supreme Court adopts recommendations made by a circuit judge.

Two members of Congress attended the hearing.

U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown was sharply critical that the justices did not address proposed changes to her north Florida district. Brown vowed afterward to move ahead with a federal lawsuit to block any changes.
