ORMOND BEACH, Fla. (AP) – Authorities say the driver of a tractor-trailer was run over by his own rig after he fell out while the vehicle was in motion.

Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Kim Montes tells the Daytona Beach News-Journal (http://bit.ly/1N8mFm5 ) the unidentified 46-year-old truck driver was killed after being hit by the rig Monday morning.

Montes says the empty rig continued to move and slammed head-on into a car. She says two passengers inside the vehicle, 28-year-old Roberto Jaimes and his mother-in-law, 48-year-old Rosalva Rivaz Rangel, were seriously injured. They were taken to a nearby hospital.

Montes says the truck driver was not wearing a seat belt and it isn’t clear how he fell out.
