PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (AP) – A New Jersey fugitive has been charged with 45 counts of manufacturing explosive devices after authorities said they found explosive materials inside his Florida home.

St. Lucie County Sheriff’s officials said John Kaminsky was wanted for failing to appear in court on an assault charge and for failing to pay child support. Authorities said they found marijuana and materials to make explosives inside his home when they went to arrest him Thursday.

Authorities said Kaminsky told them he used the materials to make fireworks.

Nearby homes were evacuated and the area was closed to traffic for five hours while the bomb squad and officers of the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives removed the materials.

Kaminsky is being held without bond until he can be extradited to New Jersey.
