PUNTA GORDA, Fla.- Two men involved in a road rage shooting on Tuesday along Burnt Store Road in Punta Gorda are not currently facing charges.

The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office says just before 6 p.m., Logan Clarke, 24, of Miami and Jeffrey Hawkshead, 38, of Punta Gorda, were involved in a road rage dispute near the intersection with Dorado Drive.

Authorities say each man remained in his vehicle while they exchanged words, and then brandished pistols, exchanging gunfire.

Neither man was injured, but both cars were damaged, officials said. The men then left the scene in different directions, and called 911 to report the incident.

“It’s crazy that people are walking around with weapons who have no right to have them,” said Tom Cartwright, who lives near where the shooting happened.

Charlotte County deputies say because the men gave authorities conflicting stories and there were no witnesses, neither man was charged.

“You need to be careful about your driving habits and how you interact with other motorists,” said Tom Conroy, with Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office.

The State Attorney’s Office is now reviewing the case and looking into possible charges, deputies said.
