When planes surpass the speed of sound, it causes a sonic boom that can be felt and heard from land. WINK News viewers from Port Charlotte to Sanibel Island complained of tremorsbetween 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. that shook garage and sliding doors. The jets were from the Key West Naval Air Station and the Homestead Air Reserve Base.
