FORT MYERS, Fla. – Sonic booms caused by military jets training in the Gulf of Mexico have resulted in shaking felt across Southwest Florida, military officials said.

When planes surpass the speed of sound, it causes a sonic boom that can be felt and heard from land.

WINK News viewers from Port Charlotte to Sanibel Island complained of tremorsbetween 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. that shook garage and sliding doors.

The jets were from the Key West Naval Air Station and the Homestead Air Reserve Base.
