GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) – Meteorologists have confirmed that snow flurries fell in parts of North Florida early Saturday.

The Tampa Bay Times posted photos and videos of the dandruff-like specks that fell briefly Saturday morning.

The University of Florida Weather Center says the rare snow flurries hit Gainesville and surrounding areas as temperatures briefly dipped below freezing.

Cold weather shelters have opened in many parts of the states with temperatures expected to touch the freezing mark again late Saturday and early Sunday.
