Fort Myers men arrested in Sarasota County burglary spree

PUNTA GORDA, Fla.- Two Fort Myers men were connected to a series of residential burglaries in Sarasota and Nokomis throughout February, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office said on Wednesday.

Alvaro Jose Delgado-Uzcategui, 31, and Effrain Adonay Carillo-Ruiz, 35, were arrested by Punta Gorda police who were also investigating a series of burglaries.

Detectives began investigating on Feb. 10 after a condo in the 1300 block of Siesta Bayside Drive in Sarasota was burglarized. The front door had been forced open and several kitchen knives, a driver’s license and passport were stolen from the residence, authorities said. Neighbors later reported seeing a suspicious man in the area and provided his license plate number to investigators.

Two homes in Nokomis were also burglarized; one in the 200 block of Bayshore Road, and the other in the 1100 block of Jessie Harbor Drive, both on Feb. 16, officials said.

In both burglaries, detectives say the suspects forced their way through the front door before ransacking the homes and stealing cash, jewelry and electronics.

After Delgado-Uzcategui and Carillo-Ruiz were arrested, officers found a bag of burglary tools in their car. Authorities also executed a search warrant on the suspects’ home in Fort Myers were cash, jewelry and even the sneakers worn by Delgado-Uzcategui during the burglaries were found, officials said.

Delgado-Uzcategui is charged with three counts of burglary of an unoccupied dwelling while Carillo-Ruiz faces one count of burglary and two counts of principal to burglary. Additional charges are pending as the investigation continues.
