Woman finds friend’s body; homicide investigation underway

EAST NAPLES, Fla.- The decomposed body of a man has been confirmed as a friend of the woman who found it in a wooded area it off Bayshore Drive near Holly Avenue.

Kari Dickinson said she filed a missing person’s report for 41-year-old Robert Charles Guyette on Feb. 25, telling investigators she had not seen him in four days.

Weeks passed before Dickinson came across a badly decomposed body while walking along a trail off Bayshore Drive.

Authorities confirmed on Thursday that the body Dickinson found around 4 p.m. on Tuesday was that of her friend Guyette. His death is now under investigation as a homicide, the Collier County Sheriff’s Office said on Thursday.

Dickinson said the scene she saw on Tuesday was staged.

“They said where the body was at wasn’t the crime scene. He was killed somewhere else and dumped there,” Dickinson said.

A cause of death has not yet been released by officials, but Dickinson said Guyette had made plenty of enemies.

“I don’t want to put the man down because he has passed away but word on the streets is he was out here doing wrong to people. Regardless of doing something wrong you have no right to take a man’s life,” Dickinson said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Collier County Sheriff’s Office at 239-252-9300, or to remain anonymous and be eligible for a reward call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477).
