ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) – Orlando International Airport can begin its $1.8 billion expansion plans.

The Greater Orlando Aviation Authority on Wednesday approved the spending plan that will start construction of the airport’s south terminal complex.

Construction could begin as early as the first quarter of next year, and the new complex could be up and running by 2019.

The project calls for constructing 2.7 million square feet of building space, which will include up to two dozen new gates and a six-story parking garage.
