FORT MYERS, Fla.- The family of a man killed while driving along Summerlin Road Monday night says their loved one was the innocent victim of a senseless crime.

Frederich “Fritz” Timmermann’s family is desperate for answers, asking anyone with information on the shooting to come forward.

“To find the person responsible for taking the kindest, most hardworking man whose life ended too soon,” said Nikki Barrett, a family friend.

Friends say Timmermann was found shot in the head behind the wheel of his car, just feet from his home.

“To lose him this way, with no real chance of even saying goodbye, is more than his family and friends can bear,” Barrett said. “He was like a brother to me.”

Multiple law enforcement sources say he was struck by a stray bullet.

“Rest in peace Fritz and thank you for your love and kindness and friendship from all who were lucky enough to know you. You will forever be in our hearts and memories,” Barrett said.

Lee Memorial Hospital held an organ donation ceremony for Timmermann.  Officials say his organs will help save eight lives.
