Family struggles after Lehigh Acres home charred

LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. – A family is looking for help and answers after losing everything in an early April fire.

“My husband tried to run in to save something but the time we got here everything was gone,” Lezlie Garcia said. “We left with the clothes on our backs that day. That’s all we had.”

It’s not the first time the Garcia family is being forced to find a new home. Back in April 2015, the Garcias lost all their savings as the victims of a rental scam. They thought they were renting a home in Lehigh Acres but deputies informed them that the home was never for rent. Neighbors stepped up then, placing the family in a hotel for the night.

Now the Garcia’s find themselves in a similar situation.

“We don’t know where we’re going to go. We’re trying to hopefully find a spot in the shelter and from there, we don’t know. It’s all in the air,” Lezlie Garcia said.

Lezlie Garcia, her husband and their three children are staying in a motel until Friday. After that, Lezlie Garcia says they will be homeless. Still, she said she is grateful that her family arrived to a house in flames rather than being caught in a fire.

“It was a blessing to come home to that rather than try to make our way out of the house,” she said.
