PENSACOLA, Fla. (AP) – Thousands of people are flocking to a famous bar to toss a dead fish across state lines.

The Pensacola News Journal reported Sunday that as many as 35,000 people were expected to attend the three-day Interstate Mullet Toss being held this weekend at the Flora-Bama Lounge.

During the event participants stand inside a 10-foot circle in Florida and toss a dead fish weighing approximately 1 pound over the state line into Alabama. After the throw is made, two people measure the length of the toss. Then the person who made the toss must return the mullet to a cooler for the next person to toss. Trophies and gift certificates are handed out to finalists.

The event began in 1985 and has grown in size and popularity since then.
