Mayor to expand public surveillance to ‘all areas’ of Fort Myers

FORT MYERS, Fla.- Security cameras, like those installed in downtown, could expand to other neighborhoods in the city.

Mayor Randy Henderson said infrastructure needs to improve before cameras can be installed, but that the expansion of surveillance is a priority for areas that are “troublesome.”

“When we have a troublesome area that we can identify, that will become the priority — to get the infrastructure and get the cameras up,” Henderson said.

His announcement was made at a meeting about the joint task force between the Fort Myers Police Department and Lee County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday. Henderson also shared his goal of placing security cameras in “all areas of the city.”
