ESTERO, Fla. – A pedestrian was killed in a crash that caused an overnight roadblock in the north and southbound lanes on Tamiami Trail and Commons Way, just north of the Hertz Headquarters, according to Florida Highway Patrol. The incident happened when a man, whom the FHP identified as 55-year-old Estero resident William Colter, tried to cross U.S. 41 from the SunMart gas station, a witness said. A Kia Optima driven by 31-year-old Yuniel Garcia of Fort Myers struck Colter, according to the FHP. Garcia is not facing any charges. Beer cans were spotted near the scene, but the FHP said alcohol was not a factor in the collision. The road was closed for a few hours as authorities investigated. No further information was available.
