Lower speed limit recommended for some busy Cape streets

Published: Updated:

CAPE CORAL, Fla.- Several busy Cape Coral streets could soon see their speed limits lowered by 5 mph.

The city’s Transportation Advisory Board is recommending the change after Cape Coral paid a consulting firm $16,000 to conduct a speed study on the roadways.

The streets that could be affected are:

  • Skyline Boulevard, south of Cape Coral Parkway
  • Chiquita Boulevard, south of Cape Coral Parkway
  • Pelican Boulevard, south of Cape Coral Parkway
  • Mohawk Parkway, east of Chiquita Boulevard
  • Savona Parkway
  • Agualinda Boulevard

“The data supported the changes. It just makes sense to do it, it’s not going to be costly to the city,” said council member Rick Williams.

It would cost about $2,000 to replace signs, according to city officials.

Two roads, Gleason Parkway and Southwest 20th Avenue, could actually see a 5 mph increase following the study.

The city manager will ultimately decide on the changes.
