Seawalls crumble 15 feet away from Cape Coral office building

CAPE CORAL, Fla. – The seawalls across the canal near the Gulf Coast Tower on Del Prado Boulevard have been crumbling for the past two weeks, neighbors said Thursday.

The seawall is apparently cracked and separating from the land, creating a gaping hole. The damage was likely caused by recent storms and pressure buildup, according to a senior estimator with Honc Marine, Geoff Campbell.

Damage to the seawall, only 15 feet from the building, could have been avoided, he said.

This is not the first seawall to experience damage in Cape Coral. Back in July, the seawall behind Manatee Bay condos collapsed, sending a nearby pool deck into a canal.
