Doggy day care disaster: Retriever gets high on heroin

Published: Updated:

DENVER (CNN) – Charlie the Golden Retriever is high on heroin after a suspected drug dealer allegedly threw 17 bags of the drug across a fence… right onto the property of a doggy daycare.

Denver police officers were chasing the suspect when he was accused of tossing the drugs. That suspect is in custody. But the damage to Charlie has been done.

“You can’t process the fact that your dog ate heroin,” Charlie’s owner, Laura said. “I’m upset. I’m grateful that she’s alive.”

Charlie reportedly ate an entire bag. Employees frantically called Laura.

“She’s high on heroin. We’re treating her but you need to come as soon as you can,” she remembers them saying.

Charlie is doing well after being rushed to the vet, Laura said.

“I could have lost my dog yesterday because some stupid idiot decided to sell drugs, run from the police and throw them,” Laura said.

The doggy daycare owner, Garret Bishop, said the incident is part of a larger heroin epidemic.
