Lehigh homicide still shrouded in mystery

LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. –Questions remain more than 24 hours after Ja’Marcus Taylor, 23, was found dead inside a Lehigh Acres home Monday afternoon.

Deputies responded to a 911 call around 3 p.m. from the house at 4674 Golfview Boulevard after neighbors reported hearing six gunshots.

“It was about 3 or something , I came out to get the mail and that’s when I saw all the commotion down there,” said a neighbor named Myrna, who wouldn’t give her last name.

The Lee County Sheriff’s office ruled Taylor’s death a homicide but said the community is not in any danger.

However, police have still not released any more information about how he died, leaving many wondering why.

“It’s very strange. You know? I thought they would get it over by last night, past midnight, but they were still out here,” Myrna said. “It’s gotta be more than just a crime.”

Friends and neighbors have still heard several rumors about what really happened.

Some are saying Taylor was shot in the chest and found lying in his kitchen floor. Other relatives say they think Taylor was trying to fight off robbers before he was shot. Myrna said she heard Taylor’s wife found his body.

“She came home and I guess found him dead, and I guess there was two young kids with him there, so I don’t know if the kids might have seen what happened to the dad,” Myrna said.

A friend of Taylor’s, who wished to remain anonymous, said he was well known and a friend to many. “He was always a good person, always looking out for everybody,” she said. “So it’s like, why him? Out of all people, Why him?”

Taylor’s wife was taken in for questioning but has not been heard from since. He was the father of two girls and had a baby son on the way.
