FORT MYERS, Fla. — All 10 nationwide campuses of Heritage College and Heritage Institute are closing, according to a note on the door of the for-profit school’s location in Fort Myers.

The note blamed financial woes and said no wrongdoing or regulatory force was behind the closure. The school offered training in dentistry, massage therapy and medical disciplines.

Workers could be seen leaving with their possessions from the Heritage Institute building on 6630 Orion Drive while students stood outside in disbelief. An estimated 100 employees were laid off as part of the closure.

“Tell us the truth,” said Frank Joseph, a student medical assistant. “You are taking our money and most of us have been here and are about to graduate.”

The note attached to the door directed people to visit the school’s website for more information, but as of 5 p.m. Tuesday, the closure wasn’t mentioned on the home page.
