Missing Purple Heart returned to Naples family

NAPLES, Fla. — A Naples man was able to track down his grandfather’s Purple Heart medal after a charity group notified him it was being sold online.

Jerry Nailor received a phone call from Purple Hearts Reunited, a non-profit organization specializing in finding missing Purple Hearts, that his grandfather’s World War I Purple Heart was listed on Ebay.

They wanted to return the medal to his family.

Jacob Nailor, Jerry’s grandfather, was injured in the Second Battle of Marne in 1918. He suffered burns throughout his body from mustard gas.

“To a family I think it’s priceless,” Jerry said. “I mean, it’s not like you’re going to sell your house to get it. But to receive it and know it comes from your blood, someone you came from and they did all this and earned it, it’s really what you would call priceless.”

Purple Hearts reunited over 200 Purple Hearts to recipients’ families. For more information about the group, click here.
