Lee County funeral director stands trial for stealing jewelry from dead body

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Former co-workers and law enforcement officials testified Wednesday in the trial of a Lee County funeral director accused of stealing $300 in jewelry off the body of a dead teenager in May 2015.

Andrew Johnson, 51, was the last person to sign for delivery of a body, and the jewelry the girl was supposed to be buried with hasn’t been seen since, according to the testimony.

The state attorney’s office said Johnson received the body from the medical examiner’s office. He’s accused of stealing gold and diamond earrings, as well as the piercings she was wearing.
