SANIBEL, Fla. — A burrowing owl that became known as the “Animal Ambassador” for the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife has died, the clinic said.

The cause of death is unclear for Hoolio, who was brought to the clinic with a broken wing in June. The bird was used as part of the clinic’s educational outreach and became a favorite among clinic guests, who helped come up with its distinctive name.

The broken wing, which was inoperable, likely happened during a collision with a vehicle, according to the clinic.
