Cape Coral man falls victim to suspected mail fraud

CAPE CORAL, Fla. — A man realized his identity was stolen after receiving an unexpected document in the mail.

James Morse knew something was wrong Tuesday when he received a notice in the mail stating his mail was being forwarded to another address, despite never having filled a change of address form.

The notice had a forged signature.

“Somebody had put a change of order address for my name and my address here in Cape Coral to a residence in Naples,” he said.

Morse took the notice to the post office, where the inspector and Cape Coral police determined it was a case of fraud.

“It’s that feeling of invasion you know that you get when you’re doing things the right way,” he said. “You work, you retire, you get on and you’re doing your daily thing and somebody is trying to take it away from you.”

As a disabled veteran, Morse said that it’s imperative he get his mail, as that’s how he receives his medication.

No arrests have been made.

Anyone with information on the crime is asked to contact the Cape Coral Police Department at (239)-574-3223.
