Developer to submit third Fort Myers Beach hotel proposal

FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. After two failed attempts, developer Tom Torgerson is hoping his latest vision becomes reality.

Torgerson, CEO of Naples-based TPI Hospitality, is submitting a new hotel proposal to town staff after he was forced to pull his previous plans a few months ago amid criticism that they were too excessive.

This time, he’s calling for an A-shaped, mostly one-story hotel on the bay side of Estero Boulevard with the open end facing the road, which will be heavily landscaped. A parking structure will be built under the hotel.

“It keeps that sandy street charm, palm trees, suntan lotion, everything you want when you come down south,” said Dave Vanryn, a tourist from Pennsylvania.
A beachside bar, beach club and restaurant are also part of the project.

“Everything fits within the realm of reason for the town and the scope and the size — he did a fine job,” said Silver Sands Resort owner Andrea Carriere said.

The Ocean Jewel property on San Carlos Boulevard and the property next to the Lighthouse Resort will also be renovated.

Togerson plans to submit his latest plan by next Friday.
